"You are of your father the
devil, and you want to do
the desires of your father.
He was a murderer from the
beginning, and does not
stand in the truth because
there is no truth in him.
Whenever he speaks a lie, he
speaks from his own nature,
for he is a liar and the
father of lies." John 8:44
The term the "devil’s baby"
brings to mind one of the
many Hollywood movies such
as "Rosemary’s Baby" or the
"Omen." The truth is, the
devil really does have his
children who practice the
evil desires of their
father. But by "devil’s
baby" here I am referring to
lies. Satan is the father of
lies.
According to our text, the
devil speaks lies because
that is his nature while in
contrast, the very nature of
Jesus is truth. Wherever
there are lies they are
being birthed by the devil
and wherever the truth is
being spoken Jesus and the
Father are exalted.
The Bible says that all men
are liars. This is not only
true but interesting because
no one really likes to be
lied to, especially in an
important situation.
Ironically, some welcome
deception because they do
not want to face the demands
of the truth. But a lie is
only adored when it is
believed to be the truth. It
is the truth that sets us
free - to follow anything
but the whole truth always
leads to bondage.
Friedrich Nietzsche once
said, -"I’m not upset
that you lied to me, I am
upset that from now on I
can’t believe you." That’s
one of the consequences of
telling lies. Once you have
demonstrated the willingness
to lie and get caught
holding the devil’s baby, it
is almost impossible for
that person to believe and
trust you in the future.
Truth is a reality and a
lie is nothing but a
hologram. A lie has no real
substance, therefore cannot
be relied upon. Satan tears
relationships apart by
tempting people to lie to
one another. Lies cause
untold hurt and pain.
Marriages fail because
people lie to one another. Treaties
between nations and
contracts between parties
are broken because someone
failed to fulfill his
promises.
Adam and Eve fell from
grace and the whole world
has been cursed since
because they received the
devil’s baby and nurtured it
to maturity. But we can’t
cast stones, because we have
all done the same. That’s
who we were in Adam, but now
in Christ we have laid aside
the lies and have taken up
the mantle of truth.
Everything we believe, say
and practice is either a lie
from the devil or a truth
from God. This is why the
truth matters and why we
must worship God in truth.
(John 4) God cannot be
worshiped with a lie or a
deception - in that place it
is the devil who is
worshiped not God. God is
not in the lie but in the
truth. You may nurse the
devil's baby, but that lie
will never stay small but
will grow to maturity - and
when it reaches maturity it
will destroy the person who
fed it.
