"We are from God; he who
knows God listens to us; he
who is not from God does not
listen to us. By this we
know the spirit of truth and
the spirit of deceit." 1
John 4:6
Satan is very crafty and is
skilled in philosophic
deception. Paul expressed
concern that the Corinthians
might be deceived by Satan’s
craftiness and be led astray
from the truth. Proverbs
says that there is a way
that seems right to a man
but its end is death.
Our text today reveals that
there is a spirit of truth
and a spirit of deceit. The
Apostle John says this to
explain why some listened to
him and others did not.
Those who listened to his
instructions and received
him as Christ’s Apostle,
were being led by the spirit
of truth. He wrote this
letter during a time when
many had fallen from the
faith and much of the Church
no longer recognized his
apostolic authority.
Jesus said, -"Seek
and you shall find. . .knock
and the door will be opened
to you." Jesus
identified Himself as the
Truth. Truth
is not something you
convince yourself of, truth
is what God declares it to
be.
Deceit and lies will always
seek you, but when it comes
to truth you must do the
seeking. As a human being
you should know by
experience that the whole
truth regarding anything
must always be actively
pursued. Truth
never just falls in your
lap.
The Heavenly Father is
seeking true worshipers who
will worship Him in spirit
and in truth. Sometimes to
find the truth you have to
tear down a citadel of
deception and sin. Satan
does his best to hide the
truth because he knows it
has the power to free those
in bondage to sin.
Jesus said, -"You
will know the truth, and the
truth will set you free."
God’s precious truths are
found where the citadels of
deception have fallen.
