“By faith Noah, being warned
by God about things not yet
seen, in reverence prepared
as Ark for the salvation of
his household, by which he
condemned the world, and
became an heir of the
righteousness which is
according to faith.” Hebrews
11:7
It was a dark time. Man had
given in to every wicked
thought and had filled the
land with sin, perversion
and violence. God’s heart
was so grieved that He even
regretted making man saying,
-“I
will blot out man whom I
have created from the face
of the land, from man to
animals to creeping things
and to birds of the sky; for
I am sorry that I have made
them.” (Gen.6)
But there was one man who
was different. One man who
sought the Lord and who
walked blamelessly before
his God. There was one man
who could stand in the gap
for fallen humanity but he
must prove himself to be
faithful. God told Noah
about His plans to destroy
the world with a flood and
then said, -“You
alone have found favor in My
sight, I will provide a way
of escape for you and your
family.”
God then delivered a series
of instructions to Noah. He
told him to build a gigantic
ship because He was going to
cause the earth to flood
with water. Rain would fall
from the sky and underground
rivers would burst forth to
flood the land with water.
Since Noah had never seen
rain or underground rivers,
he had to receive God’s Word
by faith. On top of this,
God commanded Noah to preach
to the people during the
process - telling them about
the coming flood and that
they must turn from their
wicked ways to be saved. He
pleaded with them for 120
years but not even one
received the message to turn
from their sins.
As we see in our text, Noah
and his family were saved
while the world was
condemned to perish in the
flood. Had Noah not be found
righteous and faithful, we
would not exist. Romans
Chapter 8 says that now the
whole creation is eagerly
waiting and depending upon
the children of God, who
like Noah, must also be
found blameless and
faithful.
