Without a
doubt the greatest manifestation of the
love of God took place on a hill called
Calvary about two thousand years ago.
The Father allowed His Son to be
publicly humiliated, horribly beaten and
nailed to a cross to suffer and die.
Jesus said that there is no greater love
than to lay down your life for another.
One may
conceivably be motivated to give his
life for someone he believes to be very
important or very pious. But Jesus gave
His life for those who had rebelled
against Him. Even on the cross He cried
out to the Father, -"Father,
forgive them for they do not understand
what they are doing." On
that last day Jesus expressed how
tormented His soul was knowing what He
must soon endure, but said, -"What
shall I say? ‘Lord save Me from this
fate?’ It was for this that I came into
the world."
But
perhaps God’s most dreaded day will be
Judgment Day. It will be on this day
that Jesus will have to sentence sinners
to the Lake of Fire. The Bible says that
hell was not made to destroy man but for
Satan and his demons. Yet, all those who
join his rebellion will find themselves
cast into the fire.
God
loves man and gave His life to make a
way of escape for him, so it surely will
be emotionally painful for the Lord to
judge them to hell. But there will be a
moment in time for every person to
choose life or death. No one need go to
hell when God has provided forgiveness.
Have you
ever had to have a beloved pet put to
sleep? I have always been a animal lover
and always have has a close relationship
with my pets. My dog Fly takes a walk
with me most every day and we both love
it. She is very obedient and needs no
lease - she follows my every command.
As a
result of her obedience she is free on
the trail. She can walk ahead, beside or
behind me and can chase squirrels at
will. At the time of this writing, Fly
is an old dog but is in very good
physical condition for a dog twelve
years old.
Since
she is advancing in age I understand
that there may come a day when my family
is faced with the difficult decision of
letting go of her. Of course, we would
only consider this if she was suffering
and her condition was hopeless. We would
need to be convinced that a recovery was
not possible.
That is
how it is with God. God never poured out
His wrath without first sending a plea
of repentance. The Bible says that He
does nothing without first sending His
Prophets. Nineveh repented and was
spared, Sodom refused and was destroyed.
Those who will be sentenced to hell will
have convinced God that their condition
is hopeless.
