"If we say that
we have fellowship with Him and yet walk
in the darkness, we lie and do not
practice the truth; but if we walk in
the Light as He Himself is in the Light,
we have fellowship with one another, and
the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us
from all sin." 1 John 1:6-7
One of the challenges we face as a
faithful Christian is coming into and
walking in the absolute light of the
truth. The darkness of the world
constantly attempts to invade our lives.
It is very easy to become a lukewarm
Christian like the Laodiceans John wrote
about in Revelation Chapter 3. The
Laodiceans were neither hot nor cold but
were lukewarm in their spiritual
condition. They were not walking
completely in the darkness of the world
but were not walking in the fullness of
light neither.
The Laodiceans had found their comfort
zone in the Land of shifting shadows.
This was a condition that made the Lord
sick and He warned that if they stayed
in this condition He would vomit them
out of His mouth.
As today’s text says, we cannot practice
the truth while walking in darkness, and
to have fellowship we must walk in the
Light. This means that we cannot fully
practice the truth nor have close
fellowship while walking in the Land of
Shifting Shadows. This is a place where
there are few absolutes and the truth is
not clearly defined. It is a place where
the Bible is not accepted as the
infallible Word of God. A place where
everyone does what they believe is right
in their own eyes.
A place where you hear "don’t judge me"
and "I don’t think it really matters."
It is a place where people believe that
god follows them, and where they see no
need to seek God and follow Him.
Beloved, if we don’t press into the
Light of God’s truth and walk in it
obediently, we will surely be enticed to
find our comfort zone in the Land of
Shifting Shadows. This would be tragic
indeed, for it will quickly be consumed
by the unapproachable Light of His Glory
at His return. Let us find true
fellowship with God and with each other
in the Light of truth.
