"The fool has said in his
heart, ‘There is no God." Psalm 53:1
Do you have enough faith to be an atheist? Atheists
often counter with the argument that it doesn’t take
faith to believe in nothing. Of course they mean that by
not believing in God that they believe in nothing. But
in reality no one believes in nothing. The very fact
that they have concluded in their minds that God does
not exist is something in itself. Atheists may not
believe in a divine Creator but they do believe and
accept the reality of things which is something, not
nothing.
Atheists do not like to admit that their philosophy is a
belief but it really is. Christians and Jews for
example, believe that the universe and everything in it
was made by a divine Deity - Atheists acknowledge the
universe and everything in it but hold the belief that
it came into existence and upholds itself without a
Creator. Atheists cannot prove that there is no God
therefore Atheism is a belief that
God doesn’t
exist and the belief that
the universe has no Creator - not an established fact.
Perhaps the strongest evidence for the existence of God
is life and the inquiring mind of man. The probability
that the evolution of life by random chance processes is
so unreasonable, (some say impossible) that it takes
great faith to believe. Actually the very concept that
living things which have specific design traits and
fulfill specific purposes in nature defies randomness.
Most common cells in your body are making approximately
2000 proteins every second. A protein is a combination
of 300 to over 1000 amino acids. An adult human body is
made of about 75 trillion cells. Every second of every
minute of every day, your body is organizing on order of
150 thousand, thousand, thousand, thousand, thousand,
thousand amino acids into carefully constructed chains
of proteins. Every second, every minute, every day. It
defies logic to conclude that such complex systems -
systems that work together in such a precise and
harmonious way came about by nothing more than random
processes. It seems plainly absurd, unless of course you
have the great faith of an Atheist.
