What
is the
Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the essence of God. The Holy Spirit
is the power and the mind of God. (Genesis
1:2-3) (Jeremiah 51:15) The
Holy spirit is the comforter and helper promised by
Jesus Christ, poured out by God on the Day of Pentecost
A.D. 31.
The Holy Spirit is "God" -being the very essence of both
the Father and the Son.
The Holy Spirit is primarily imparted to man by the
laying on of hands after repentance and baptism.
(Acts 8:18 / 2:38)
The Holy spirit is the source of inspiration and
prophecy throughout the Scriptures and is the
Christian's constant guide to all truth and
understanding. (Acts
2:17) (John 16:13)
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth. (John
14:16-17)
The Holy Spirit is what makes us one with God the Father
and Jesus the Son. (John
17:21)
In Romans
8, Paul identifies those who have the
indwelling of the Holy Spirit as the Children of God and
heirs of the Kingdom of God.
The Holy Spirit produces the wonderful fruits named in
Galatians 5 in the person possessing its indwelling.
God gives gifts such as the ability to prophesy, heal,
speak in other tongues, ,both earthly and heavenly,
interpretation of tongues, miracles, administration,
discernment of spirits, wisdom, knowledge, faith, etc.
through the working of the Holy Spirit. (1
Corinthians 12)
God gives gifts to His Church for the purpose of
administration regarding the Assembly through the
working of the holy spirit also. The gifts of Apostle,
Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher and Deacon are all
bestowed by God through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Acts
20:28) (Ephesians 4:8-16)
