Who
and what
is God?
God
is a family composed of the Father and the Son. They are
one family. One in spirit, unity and purpose. Genesis
1:1 states- "In
the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." the
Hebrew word for "God" here is "Elohim" which is a plural
noun meaning more than one. "Elohim" is both God the
Father and God the Son who later came to earth in
fleshly form as Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus cried out to His Heavenly Father while on the
cross saying, "Eloi, Eloi lama Sabachthani?" Meaning
"Father, Father, why have You forsaken Me?" Notice that
Jesus spoke to God the Father by saying "Eloi" which is
the singular form of "Elohim."
Notice Genesis
1:26,- "Then God (Elohim) said, "Let US make
man in OUR image." In
this passage there are clearly more than one member of "Elohim"
consulting with one another concerning the creation of
man.
God is composed of spirit. (John
4:24) God
is eternal. (1
Timothy 1:17) God
is Creator of heaven and earth, sustainer of the
universe and author of man's salvation. (1
Corinthians 8:6) (Hebrews 5:9) The
character of God can best be described as LOVE, for God
is love. (John
4:8) God
is the "I AM" which means "I AM whatever you need Me to
be."
When we need rest -He is our refuge. When we are in
trouble,-He is our help in time of need. When we are
sick, -He is our Healer. And because we needed a Savior,
- He became our Savior by paying the price of sin which
is death.
Jesus instructed His disciples to baptize new converts
in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is God and is the essence of both the
Father and the Son. Without the indwelling of the Holy
Spirit no one can be saved nor can they be a child of
God. (Romans
8)
God is the loving Father of every Christian, Jesus is
our Redeemer, Savior, Lord, Healer and Friend and the
Holy Spirit is our Comforter and guide to all truth.
